Ego vs. Intuition

Ego vs. Intuition

One of the most common questions I am asked in my practice is 'How do I know the difference between my ego and intuition?'

This is such a good question. Most people have a really hard time telling these two apart and that's completely normal! I myself struggled with this in the beginning of my awakening and development process. It took me months and months of reading and taking courses to truly grasp the concept between the two. I think this is because I was so used to hearing my Ego.

So, I am going to try to explain the difference between the two.

Let's start off with your Ego

Your Ego is loud and sometimes obnoxious. It can also be referred to as the voice of fear. This is because our Ego is supposed to protect our human shell. So, it is going to give you ever reason why you shouldn't do something. Your Ego is also often going to be the practical advice that you give yourself. It's not going to go off of the beaten path or want to take challenges or risks.

A few examples of your Ego might tell you....

  • You can't.
  • You won't.
  • You'll never.
  • It's too much.
  • You aren't smart enough.

As you can see by the examples above, your Ego is not going to look on the positive side of things. You Ego is going to give you every reason why you shouldn't do something. You are going to be speaking from your head and not from your heart or gut. This is the most important thing to remember when it comes to the Ego. It will never come from a loving place.

Now, let's discuss the fun part, your Intuition

Your intuition is everything that your Ego is not. Your intuition is much quieter and sounds much softer than your ego talking. Your intuition is not always something you 'hear'. It could also be a feeling that you feel deep in your gut. It may come across as a strong knowing with no reason as to why. It also may come to you as goosebumps (I've always called them my truth bumps). Your intuition is always going to be positive in nature It is always going to come from your heart or your gut. You Intuition will just know something without explaining any rational behind it.

Your intuition is ultimately your soul higher-self communicating with you. Your higher self is never going to take you down the wrong path. Your intuition will grow stronger the more that you listen to it and keep it tuned up.

You do not have to be a Psychic Medium to have a strong intuition. I know many people who tune into their intuition for all different kinds of reasons. To help with their jobs, to help with their home life, their children, and even to help guide them when they hit a rough patch in life. Aligning yourself with your high-self simply allows yourself to flow better with the energy that you are attracting into your life via your thoughts (this line is an entire other blog post here!).

So, now that I've described a little bit about how to tell the difference between the two... are you able to decipher which you use more of? Your Ego or Your Intuition?
